چکیده

Seen in long-term perspectiye the discovery of X-rays and their use as a diagnostic agent must surely rank as one of the major advances in medicine, Though of less immediate practical benefit than were either anaesthesia or antisepsis, the scientific importance was greater and even now, after more than fifty years, new techniques are still being evolved with resulting increases in knowledge. Among the many sub-divisions of radiology the introduction of contrast radiography in exploring the vascular pattern of organs otherwise inaccessible, has been one of the more recent and most fruitful developments. A striking instance is the use of percutaneous carotid angiography with the consequent recognition of thrombosis of the internal carotid artery. No doubt from time to time an inquisitive morbid anatomist had inspected the carotid arteries in the neck and found one or other occluded, but the fact passed unrecorded and was doubtless regarded as nothing more than

Carotid artery thrombosis and cerebral infarction after multiple traumas

Carotid artery thrombosis and concomitant brain infarction after blunt trauma are rare conditions. We report a 34-year-old woman with multiple traumas due to pedestrian car accident. At the time of initial visiting, she was somnolent and her Glasgow coma scale (GCS) score was 14. Initial vital signs (V/S) and brain computed tomography (CT) scan were normal. One day after admission to the emerge...

ایسکمی تأخیری مغزی بدنبال ترمیم ترومای نافذ شریان کاروتید خارجی

Introduction: Penetrating trauma to anterior neck can induce cerebral ischemia due to carotid artery injury. Brain ischemia also can present after surgical carotid repairs. Early diagnosis and suitable treatment modality prevent from permanent neurologic deficit post operatively. Case Report: A 30 years old man with stab wound to zone two left side of neck underwent exploration and penrose i...

A Lumped Parameter Method to Calculate the Effect of Internal Carotid Artery Occlusion on Anterior Cerebral Artery Pressure Waveform

Background and Objective: Numerical modeling of biological structures would be very helpful tool to analyze hundreds of human body phenomena and also diseases diagnosis. One physiologic phenomenon is blood circulatory system and heart hemodynamic performance that can be simulated by utilizing lumped method. In this study, we can predict hemodynamic behavior of one artery of circulatory system (...

Carotid angioplasty and stenting in a patient with high grade stenosis of Internal Carotid Artery associated with both vertebral arteries and contralateral carotid occlusion

Severe internal carotid artery (ICA) stenosis is a common cause of cerebrovascular accident (CVA) in middle-aged patients. Contralateral carotid occlusion (CCO) in patients with severe ICA stenosis is associated with high risk of CVA. Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) is associated with more complications in patients with CCO than those without CCO. In this study, we present the case of a 61-year-ol...

Superficial Temporal Artery-Middle Cerebral Artery Anastomosis for Internal Carotid Artery Occlusion by Subacute In-Stent Thrombosis after Carotid Artery Stenting

Alternative to carotid endarterectomy, carotid artery stenting (CAS) can be performed for symptomatic severe stenosis of internal carotid artery, especially for high-risk patients. Among several complications after CAS, subacute in-stent thrombosis is rare but important, because patient's condition can deteriorate rapidly. Subacute in-stent thrombosis with carotid artery occlusion can be manage...

Ophthalmoplegia with contralateral hemiplegia. Occlusion of the internal carotid artery due to thrombosis of an intracavernous aneurysm.

A left ophthalmoplegia and right hemiplegia were due to thrombosis of an intracavernous aneurysm with occlusion of the left internal carotid artery. Ophthalmoplegia with contralateral hemiplegia is probably a rare syndrome. Thrombosis of an intracavernous aneurysm is probably a rare cause of occlusion of the internal carotid artery.
